Want: Dunny Series 5

September 4th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Vinyl Love

Its gonna be a party, and as much as I’m almost burnt out on the Dunny platform, i’ll be there snatching up the goodies. As I become more knowledgeable in the Designer/Vinyl toy realm, I start to get more excited about the individual customs. Series 4 I was a complete dummy; in this cycle I’m amped for Amanda Vissel, Frank Kozik, Huck Gee, DevilRobots, Jesse LeDoux, and of course, MISHKA.

I wear a lot of MISHKA, thanks to the boys at Krudmart keeping me in stock. The MISHKA Dunny is the first second (see below) for the NYC fashion label, and to celebrate, they are selling 25 custom Bear Mopped autographed Skunk Ape Dunnys from their online store.

I of course, just bought one, but I’m anxious to get another; keeping the collectors pack in mint condition.

[Update: Not ten minutes after posting this, does MISHKA comment and remind me that they actually had a figure in Series 3, "My Pal the Crook." This goes to show how much I paid attention to S3. Either way, totally stoked and essited. Way to go MISHKA! ]

Meet Coot

Larger Pictures of front and back on Flickr

I first mentioned coot when he showed up in my radar in January, and I begged and prodded for Beth (of Hero Design Studio in Allentown) to get him. She happily obliged, knowing my affinity for tall, beefy, nekkid lummocks, and even held him for me while I whored up for the scratch to pick him up. Reason number #573 that Hero Design is the best toy shop evar.

Since Flickr launched video capabilities for pro members, I’ve been taking advantage of it to show you a little more than a just a picture when I feature my new vinyl. Here is Coot in 90 seconds (flickr limits video to 90 secs and 15MB, to keep video at the raw clip level.)

Meet Barry the Beaver

April 1st, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Vinyl Love

When I get asked to explain (validate) why I spend so much money on these vinyl toys, I say that they are upscale toys, designer toys, and like a lot of collectors say, they are “toys for adults, but not that kind of toy.”

Not anymore.

barrybeaver.jpg
[I got my Beaver from Hero Design on 93 Alllen in Buffalo]

Meet Barry the Beaver. he’s 5.25″ of lovable vinyl, with a flexible rubber tail and he’s just so happy to see you. Twist him on the stump (provided you installed the AA battery included) and watch how excited he gets. Created by the amazingly talented and semi-twisted Jeremy Fish, in conjunction with Superfishal and UpperPlayground, Barry was produced by Ningyoushi.com and is available in limited release for ~$45. Pick one up and bury your beaver today.

WANT: KidRobot releases Adult Swim Minis in April.

March 6th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Vinyl Love

[Assy McGee, Lil' Squidbillie, Robot Chicken, and Grandma Squidbillie]

This is it. Convergence. The love of the toy merged with the love of late night absurdity… KidRobot plans to release a 20 toy blind box series this April featuring an allstar Adult Swim cast. The figures appear to be about 3 inches tall, and will retail at select retail stores for $7.95 Here’s the lineup:

Definitely I shall definitely be getting up on this series like a fat kid on a Snicker Bar. I’m not a fan of all the shows to be featured, but I plan on getting the ATHF, Robot Chicken, and Squidbillies. I really really hope the two mysteries are Master Shake and Meatwad from teh Aquateen Series…

robotchechicken_assy.jpg

  • Via Vinyl Pulse because KidRobot is keeping quiet. Apparently, during SDCC 2007, Kidrobot sent out a press release that they had secured the license to drop the minis this February. That never happened. No one really know why but if Vinyl Pulse is on the money (they nearly always are) then we will see these in early to mid April. Hopefully I’ll hear more soon and I’ll see what I can do about poking Hero Design to carry a box or three.

The Le French Connection

February 28th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Vinyl Love

One of the greatest things about the Le French Dunny Series is how there are visible connections and proof of collaboration between some of the artists. Instead in some series’ where each character is completely different, I’m gonna point out a few details on some of the French figures that bring them together.. as well as explain why the Easy Hey is so goddamn ugly unique.

First off, the French Color Trio.

french_con_colorway.jpg

Look at the 123KLAN, Oktus (I’ve yet to score this figure), and Superduex  together, notice anything? The three colors (blue white red) aren’t just the French national colors, they are a prevalent design aesthetic for Superduex, who also did the packaging design for the series. Superduex, 123KLAN and Oktus all have collabo’d together via french Design groups like UNCHI. Looking at the art styles of 123KLAN, I’d assume that they followed Superduex’s concept to create a matching figure. And Oktus was more of a color adherence. either way, the three look appropriate placed next to each other.

Now, onto the the Peen and the Sourpatch.

We found the cock and balls “discreetly” painted on the underside of the SecretLab figure during the Hero Party. It wasn’t till the end of the night that I discovered that the Koralie I just traded for had a raspberry under her. I refuse to believe that this is a coincidence.

Ok, now why Easy Hey is so.. Unique.

For being 1/400, this is a real stinker of a figure. I guess thats makes sense, seeing it was based off of Easy Hey’s Kid Onion “pet” character….

easyhey.jpg

On another note, Oktus and Easy Hey are both part of the same French Design Group called Delkographik

The French Dunnys are selling fast and strong, stop by Hero Design in Buffalo and pick up a few, or visit the KidRobot page to learn more.

French Dunny Wrap Up

February 22nd, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Vinyl Love

frenchfries.jpg

The Le French Dunny’s were released yesterday from Kidrobot, and toy shops all over the States held trading parties to celebrate. Hero’s Party was a blast, natch. We had french food (French Fries, Croissants, and French Toast, FTW!), beer, wine, and a store packed full of people hovering over the boxes, bartering and buying from one another; the atmosphere was one of a kind.

dunnywhat.jpg

I rounded up 18 Dunny’s total, including the two rare chases, thanks to luck and the awesomeness that is Beth and Mark. Of course, Mark was up to his usual trickeries and greed for his own collection, and I was finding ways to manipulate points and punches and free tickets for the raffle. Turns out my luck was well enough, because I won the $50 hero gift card, which I promptly spent.

French_Dunny_Haul2.jpg

I managed to score a good amount of the ones I wanted, and now that I have the two chases, I feel like I could possibly complete this set. It really sucks that the most common pull was the Mist. I feel like it’s a garbage toy because the design was simply a different colorway from a previous series, nothing new, nothing to terribly attractive. I have an army of them now (five!), and I’m sure I’ll get more.

checklist.jpg

I don’t mind too much that the SecretLab was  common as well.. at least it has a white cockandballs painted on the underside.

Since it was a trading party, I also brought my Be@rbrick 2007 Wondercon Transformers pack to trade with Mark. He gave me a Stomp Super7 Kaiju for it, and I feel great about it. When I bought the Be@rbricks, it was an attempt to build a connection between Mike’s love for Transformers, and my love for the art toy collection. Obviously it didn’t work; Mikes’ out of the picture, and I’m moving on.

Weekend Update: Lampinelli, BDSM, and Family

January 14th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in The Daily Grind

I was Lisa Lampinelli’s personal whore

lampinelli_web.jpg

Actually, it was our bouncer James, making out with her, but I was her homo hospitality liason for the evening. See, Lisa Lampinelli perfomed at Shea’s Theatre Friday night, and like a good fag hag, she brought her ass (and pals) to Marcella’s for her after-party. True to her schtick, she latched on to James, our beloved black bouncer who by then end of the night was shirtless showing his “runaway slave” tattoo to her and getting a little Lampinelli action. I hear he didn’t get the “bomb-ass-pussy” but that she would make it back to buffalo and “BOOM!” I think I like Lampinelli more than Kathy Griffin, at least Lisa came to Marcella’s and she’s actually cool people.

Blackout and BDSM

Now, there was a little issue that made my running arounds interesting. We had a black-out party that night. The first this year, a black out party is when we turn the lights out at midnight and folk dance to glowsticks and black lights. Essentially, everyone does their drugs, and a few people get fucked on the dancefloor, but you can’t see shit. Since, I’m the light guy, I’m pretty much jobless at Black-out parties. I end up making my coins by dancing or running around for our manager, Richard. When I used to dance and whore around, I would dress up in my leather gear or something fierce and parade around dripping in glowlights. Nowadays, I’m getting older and grumpier and I can’t stand to dance for tips and trolls as much, but I always try to do a little something for the black out parties. This time, I decided to borrow a custom made gas mask that belongs to a “boy” of mine. I think I scared a few people with it. If you are wondering why someone would own an Anubis style gas mask, let custom order it, lets just say my “boy” enjoys certain BSDM elements where this would come in handy. Think oxygen and sensory deprivation. I live a full life, eh?

anubis.jpg

I also realized that night that I’ve crossed over in my alchohol tolerance for Jack Daniels. I was power drinking that night, and Joseph loves to pour strong drinks for me. Yet, I couldn’t even taste the alcohol and I was pretty nimble running around for Lampinelli. However, look below and you can tell I was pretty lit…

me.jpg

Dinner with the Folk.

I paid for it in the morning however. Wasn’t a hangover like I expected. No, Nater woke up still drunk at noon with my pops and my (for all intents and purposes) stepmom to take me out to lunch. We headed over to Pearl Street Grill to eat and then I got to show my Bradford living folks a bit of the Elmwood Strip.

dadnatejerrie_web.jpg

Ooh, I almost forgot, I picked up a new vinyl too. Urban Treeson. After Pearl, we went to Hero so I could introduce my folks to the people who have been taking my money that last few weeks, but they had their intern at the store…. Bah! Regardless, I caved to the Treeson craze and picked up the black and crying model.

urbantreeson_web.jpg

I skipped out on Saturday at the club, since Mike and I broke up, I’ve been wary of going out and dealing with fallout. I thought for a moment that since we ended things amicably that everything was ok, turns out he back to his bitter self again, this time talking about his “whore of an ex husband running off and fucking the Canadians,” and how “he should break up every week, he feels so good.” I’m trying to not let shit like that affect me, it just sucks to see another ex go the shady route. least I didn’t have to break his ribs… yet.

An early Birthday present.

January 10th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Vinyl Love

ledbetterkozik_web.jpg
[Ledbetter Finders Keeper and a Kozik Monger]

I got these little items the other day from a good pal Mike, in Texas. He’s kinda a cooky sort, and my oldest interweb pal; he’s always been there over the years no matter how crazy things have been for me. I wasn’t expecting a birthday gift, but when it arrived I wasn’t surprised to see a cock ring and some rubbers included. I love my friends. It’s crazy, but I sometimes feel more connected with my peeps from the web than the ones I have locally. My moving around a lot has something to do with it I guess, I’m kinda amazed I’m still in Buffalo for almost three years, and not all that restless to change it.

pinkelephant2_web.jpg

This beautiful vinyl piece came from Hero as a present for myself. A bit pricey, but the absolute top quality paint job and idea of it all makes the Pink Elephant w/ Drunky McSkunky a must have for any toy collection. its probably one of the best new vinyls to come out for the new year. Pink Elephant was designed by Amanda Visell and producedby Munky King. Visell is simpy amazing with her illustrations and its a delight whenever her work gets put into this medium.

drunky_web.jpg

Drunky McSkunky has a magnet on his bum so he stays on top of the pink elephant. Now thats radtastic.  You can get this at Hero on Allen or online at Munky King.
