I noticed Beth was working on this new print last week. I almost stole one before she had put the final color on it, but I’m glad I waited… it looks so awesome! And since I felt bad about almost stealing one, I’m gonna penance and give one away to one of my readers.

Hero Design Studio on Etsy – Autumn is my favorite season of them all. I love all the colors, the brisk air and the smell of the drying leaves. Every year I find myself in the most wonderful mood come mid October!

This year I finally decided to capture that feeling in a print. This is a is limited edition 5 color 8″ x 10″ screen print, printed on Accent Opaque Smooth White 100# cover stock. Each print is signed by us.

I heard Beth is already working on the other three seasons, and maybe I’ll do a giveaway for those too. However, here’s how to win the Autumn print:

  1. Contest starts from this post date, until Noon on Thursday, the 29th (of October, silly).
  2. You have to comment with your FAVORITE  Fall activity in the town you where you live. I’ll ask Beth to help me pick the sweetest comment, since Fall is her favorite season ever.
  3. The winner will receive a signed 8″x 10″ Autumn Print from HeroDesign, courtesy of your favorite snarky Buffalonian. If you live in the Buffalo, NY  area, you’ll have to stop by Hero Design Studio + Boutique (93 Allen St, Buffalo) to pick it up. If you live outside of Buffalo, or hate to leave your house (then how could you love Fall?), we’ll ship it to you.
  4. Make sure you leave your real email address in the form (but not in the actual comment) or I can’t contact you if you win.

That’s it!

Time’s Up! Time to get with Beth to pick the winners, I’ll have a winner announced shortly!

Here I was, just lounging, and I was thinking “hmm, this Bonobos Polo shirt is so comfy, I’d love to share that comfy with everyone in the world!” Since I’m no Sugar Daddy, free comfy Bonobos for everyone just isn’t possible (I can offer you 15% your first order, just use code “buffawhat” in checkout!) , but if you head over to The Bilerico Project, I’m giving away one free Bonobos Better Fitting Polo to a lucky random commenter. Head over there quick, the contest ends the 28th at 9:30AM!

p.s. – did you know I’m a contributor for The Bilerico Project? Bilerico is a great site, full of community and lots of LGBT details on nearly every issue that’s been swirling about lately.

A POM a Day…

07.20.2009 @ 11:26 AM in Culture

keeps the prostate at bay? Pomegranates always confused me. Growing up, I’d go through the grocery store with my parents and point to the red grenade looking fruit and beg mom to pick up a few. I loved fresh fruit as a kid (and as an adult), so one day Mom conceded and the next morning my sister and I cracked one open. While they were tasty, my ADHD won over every time. A pomegranate is essentially a seed pod, with each seed surrounded by a bit of juicy flesh. More seeds than anything else, I got as far as sorting the seeds out before I gave up and pawned it off to my meticulous sister. That was about it for my pomegranate experiences…

Until about a month ago, when a representative from POM Wonderful offered me a case of POM juice to try out. 8oz of 100% pomegranate juice, that take about a minute to consume (ADHD friendly!) and is packed with antioxidants, which we all know help fight diseases, like prostate cancer (guys, have you had a PSA test lately?).

More than anything, pomegranates are packed with antioxidants, which work to seek out and neutralize free radicals inside your body. Free radicals are little molecules on the fritz, unstable atoms that can cause havoc to your body, leading to a greater chance for diseases like cancer. You can’t escape free radicals, they get in from anywhere (food, drink, city life, farm life, chemicals), but you can be on the offensive.

Pomegranates are grenades, packed with little bits of fruit-seed shrapnel called arils. If you have slightly more patience then I do, this is the best method I found for separating the the fruit for mixing with cereal, ice cream, or just enjoying as a crunchy (if you eat the seeds), juicy snack…

Then again, you can just drink the juice. POM Wonderful juice is a bit on the pricey side, ~$20 for an 8-pack of 8oz bottles, but its the only source I know for 100% pomegranate (I love cranberry juice too, another source of antioxidants, but i can never find it 100% cranberry, always mixed with apple or pear juice).

Crossposted from The Bilerico Project, where I have a contest running to win a free case of POM Wonderful (along with a sampling of POMx bars). Hit up the link here and post a comment about your favorite method to stay healthy in the Summer. Winner will be chosen randomly on Wednesday. DO it!

Sai One: Valentine’s Day Contest

With February now amongst us, that means that Valentine’s Day is in just two short weeks. With that said, Angel has a drawing over at his store for a V-day bundle worth about $125!

The rules:

  1. Head down to Sai One (818 Elmwood, across from the Lexington Co-op), and take a gander at the glass jar full of Hershey Kisses.
  2. Guess the amount of Kisses in the jar and write the number down on a slip of paper with: your name and your phone or email address, which ever gets a hold of you first. Slip it in an envelope and go about your business.
  3. On February 13th, Angel will pick the entry with the closest (or exact) number to the actual count of the Kisses without going over. In case of a tie, a random draw will decide the winning slip. You’ll get a ring or a ping, and you can pick up your prize.

The prize:

  1. One-of-A-Kind Spring handbag, made especially for the contest.
  2. Angel’s custom Chocolate body line: lotion, body wash, and bath salts; all infused with the rich and lucsious scent of chocolate.
  3. A Sai One red Ladie’s Tank/Panty set.

No purchase necessary, just head over and take a guess. Since the drawing is on the 13th, that gives you the opportunity to gift this as well if you win, making you look super special with your lady and possibly securing third base.
