Video: Janet Jackson – Feedback

[flv width="600" height="480"]http://buffawhat.com/files/video/Janet_feedback.flv[/flv] Work it lady. She really came back with a nice new video, kinky and reminiscent of old school Janet Jackson. I love the dancing in the milk scene at the end. totally senseless but hot as hell.

An early Birthday present.

ledbetterkozik_web.jpg [Ledbetter Finders Keeper and a Kozik Monger] I got these little items the other day from a good pal Mike, in Texas. He's kinda a cooky sort, and my oldest interweb pal; he's always been there over the years no matter how crazy things have been for me. I wasn't expecting a birthday gift, but when it arrived I wasn't surprised to see a cock ring and some rubbers included. I love my friends. It's crazy, but I sometimes feel more connected with my peeps from the web than the ones I have locally. My moving around a lot has something to do with it I guess, I'm kinda amazed I'm still in Buffalo for almost three years, and not all that restless to change it. pinkelephant2_web.jpg This beautiful vinyl piece came from Hero as a present for myself. A bit pricey, but the absolute top quality paint job and idea of it all makes the Pink Elephant w/ Drunky McSkunky a must have for any toy collection. its probably one of the best new vinyls to come out for the new year. Pink Elephant was designed by Amanda Visell and producedby Munky King. Visell is simpy amazing with her illustrations and its a delight whenever her work gets put into this medium. drunky_web.jpg Drunky McSkunky has a magnet on his bum so he stays on top of the pink elephant. Now thats radtastic.  You can get this at Hero on Allen or online at Munky King.

Twitter Stats

01.07.2008 @ 3:46 PM in Lifestream
Twitter (wiki) is one of those things that means nothing to some, something fun to a few, and the new way of life to the rest. Las February, I picked up twitter as a new wave, thought I get social with the new buzz. Little did I know that it would soon connect to be the perfect alt blog; an ability for me to send out shouts of information that I didn't really need to make a blog post out of.  Twitter has proved with it's API that it doesn't matter the amount of information you have, its how you can use that information. One great example has been the most recent Twitter Stats perl script whipped up by D.Cortesi, who wanted a way to find out what he's been up to with Twitter over the past year. Originally scripted in perl with use in Numbers on OSX, he posted the code and shortly thereafter, bugs were fixed, code reengineered and polished to work into ruby and googlechart and gnuplot. Here's my stats below, thanks to @twistednexus for chrunching the script for me... Buffawhat_twitter.png It turns out that I talk to my bear friends on twitter a lot (@steiger, @cantorum, @bearpupuk), as well as Beth (@kidkreativader) from Hero(@Herodesign), and my business partner Chris (@buffalogeek). I'm most active twittering from midday till after work; thursday is my biggest day to twitter.

Quick and satisfying fix for an HP Printer

[youtube width="600" height="501"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5V8sKjMUF0[/youtube]
  • from video description - All I wanted to do was print one damn page that I can have copied to make labels for my Benderbrau beer http://www.asciimation.co.nz/bender on my little used HP printer and the bloody thing wouldn't work. Paper kept sticking, the ink cartridges were gummed up and eventually the thing stopped working and wouldn't switch on. I got a little annoyed that it was broken so I fixed it.
BTW, the Bender Beer Brewing Bot (B OVERLOAD!) is finally complete. The guy did a really great job on the modeling and the thing actually makes beer! bender.jpg

01.07.2008 @ 10:36 AM in Technology
This has been the only announcement from CES to really get me excited. Perhaps it's because I've been waiting on this phone for half a year.

Stupid Facebook.

01.06.2008 @ 3:06 AM in Lifestream
facebook.jpg I tried to be subtle about this, I didn't even twitter it, yet. Unfortunately, when you start the wonderful process of changing profile statuses to "single," and one of your social means is Facebook, subtlety gets hard. After about a half dozen im's and emails from folk that are facebookers, I'll make it public.
  • Michael  and I are no longer a couple.
I really don't want to hear how Michael was bad for me, or how I'm better off. Truth is, it doesn't really matter. Not being with Michael was something that I had to do for a new year for myself.  This has been that hardest decision for me to make, because instead of something catastrophic to trigger this, I had to realize on my own that we weren't meant to be past a year. I'm just gonna take some time to myself, hang out with friends and focus on me. I'm not going to be dating anyone else from Buffalo for a while, the supply of decent single have long been exhausted and I don't feel like trying to disprove that claim either.

Pier 1 demolished, Bank of America coming soon.

They ripped down the vacant Pier 1 on Wednesday, and in its spot will soon be a shiny new Bank of America, relocated from the Utica street. A slight bit of irony is that last August, Warren Buffet bought some Bank of America and sold his Pier 1 ownings. Anyways, The Elmwood village dug their claws into this one --per usual-- and the new plans are for a faux two story building with 4 bike spots, a greenspace and OMGPARKING! Miraculously, everything was approved and we should start to see some new construction start soon. On a latter Elmwood note:
  • Astoria is closed for good. -New Years eve was the last night. This is partly do to Elmwood (the EVA and the people) ignoring the Bryant section, and adds to the sad trend of closing stores and turnovers on that block. Solid Ground closed because the owner was a bitch and the food sucked, and Angel moved his store (Sai One) to the 800 block, as did Atelier. Astoria had some of the best food on the strip and no one appreciated that enough. Mythos is the closest equivalent, but its still not the same.

So Long Andrea! So Long Scroll Lock

01.04.2008 @ 12:06 PM in Technology
scroll.jpg My inter-office fag hag Andrea is leaving the agency (teh day jobbie) today, and going to work for some other underpaying DDSO controlled agency, where no doubt she will miss me terribly. To help counter her impending misery I've gone about and collected a good assortment of scroll lock keys from offices around the building, to present to her along with her very own memory/key nameplate. Why the scroll locks? Well, since I'm the unofficial tech guy and MS Office guru, I get to instruct and save the day when it comes to mail merge, Excel, and other little productivity puzzles. Andrea always seems to get herself into trouble with Excel, as she manages to flip on Scroll Lock and panics when the arrow key refuses to change cells. I swear she makes me feel brilliant. I've probably fixed this "issue" for her about 6 times in the last few months. She even called me the other week when I was home sick with the flu. Diguised as a get well call from my department, I quickly learned she just wanted to know what broke in Excel.
  • "scroll lock you psycho!" I moaned.
  • "OMG! it worked! Thank you I Love you!"
Like I said, she makes me feel genius. Wikipedia says this about the scroll lock:
  • The scroll lock key is a remnant from the original IBM PC keyboard. In the original design, scroll lock was intended to modify the behavior of the arrow keys. When the scroll lock mode was on, the arrow keys would scroll the contents of a text window instead of moving the cursor. In this usage, scroll lock is a modifier key like Alt and Shift (which modify the function of other keys) and, more specifically, a toggling lock key like Num Lock or Caps Lock, which have a state that persists after the key is released. Today, this particular use of scroll lock is rare. Only a few modern programs still honor this behavior, such as Microsoft Excel (in the behavior of arrows — when scroll lock is on, the selection does not move), Lotus Notes and Forté Agent. In modern GUI environments, scrolling is usually accomplished using means such as scrollbars or scroll wheels. Therefore scroll lock can be regarded as a defunct feature in almost all modern programs and operating systems; some keyboards lack scroll lock altogether.
In other words, pretty useless. I've taken this as a great opportunity to rid the agency of future scroll lock related problems once and for all.

Jay-Z and Apple to form Record Label?

01.03.2008 @ 10:45 AM in Technology
jay_steve.jpg Say it isn't so, but the BGR (BoyGeniusReport) says it is:
  • ...we’ve just about confirmed it. For those that don’t know, Jay-Z left Def Jam as President last month, ... we just heard that Jay-Z is launching a record label with Apple. ... This is from a high-up person attached to Jay (no, not who you’re thinking), and it’s said to be a go! Jay is supposedly totally into the business model, and really wants this to happen.
Hrm. Hrm. Hrmphf! I dunno about this, but as incredible as it sounds, this could totally work. Apple has been trying to establish a firm bargaining chip with the music industry for a while, since Record companies have been bucking with DRM and song costs.  This isn't the first time that Hip-hop and Apple have been mentioned together, either. Remember that story about the 50-Cent inner-city budget mac? Yea, didn't think so.
