SYTYCD: Buffalo’s Tony Bellissimo could make it to the 20.

06.04.2009 @ 10:53 AM in Culture
dancelogo I started watching So You Think You can Dance last season and was hooked. I don't watch Idol, I could care less about who's Got Talent, but SYTYCD manages to keep me interested. The boyfriend DVR'd it for me and even he was sucked in last night. This year, we have a local Buffalo boy in the competition, and he held his own in Vegas, despite having to "dance for his life." We'll find out tonight  if he makes it to the final 20. Tony BellissimoHis name is Tony Bellissimo, lives in Hamburg, and has been dancing since he was a little kid. He attended the Future Dance Center in Buffalo, and was instructed by Denise and Gino Vaccaro. He also belonged to Tremaine Performance Company for a year or so, and his specialty is Hip-Hop. Tony has a lot of potential. He has a great body, he's tall and lanky, and full of humor and personality. His solo piece in Las Vegas snagged the judges when his routine exposed various mugshots of Nigel Lythgoe to the tune of "Somebody's Watching Me." Hip Hop dancers sometimes have trouble when it comes to Jazz and Contemporary but Tony breezed through most of it.  After a bit of gut-wrenching suspense from the Judges (not even SYTYCD is free from crafted commentary from the judges), Tony exploded in emotion and joined the top 32 after wiping his tears on Cat's shoulders, who has a thing for boys with feelings (or is it boys she can feel up?). 12 people will be sent home tonight; I hope it isn't Tony, I'd like to see this local boy make it. The other thing that's awesome about SYTYCD is that the music doesn't suck, with routines set to Black Eyed Peas and the Ting Tings... it only gets better as the season progresses.
Last year, I used a now shutdown service called Red Lasso to display clips from the series. Since that went belly up, I'm still looking for a legalesque method of showing my favorite clips... Bonus! - Check after the jump and see Tony make an appearance in "Pinch," a local short film comedy making a tribute to Star Trek.

Video: JUGGALOOOOO!!! (Progeria Represent!)

progeriajuggalo I wouldn't even care so much, but the fact that this guy is no doubt a down-ass Juggalo, I had to post it... cause you know, FAMILY and shit. Fuck you Haters! (via the bloglin).
I think this guy has Progeria, which isn't cool, but heh, he's eating up the attention so have at it. And he "has a penis in [his] stomach," which I think is pretty damn awesome. One more after the jump.

2nd Annual Stiletto Run on June 24th: “Kick” Ovarian Cancer!

06.02.2009 @ 3:00 PM in Buffalo
stilettorun1Buffalo, N.Y. – The 2nd annual Stiletto Run, hosted by Elmwood shoe store, ShoeFly and Celebrate Buffalo Inc., will take place on Wednesday, June 24 at 7:00 p.m. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. A portion of the event proceeds to benefit The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. Pre-registration for the event is $25 or $30 on the day of the event. The Stiletto Run welcomes all fun shoe wearers, whether you are a walker or a runner. In order to be eligible for placing prizes, runners must be registered and complete the race in a shoe with a minimum heel height of three inches. First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded to the first three to cross the finish line. Sue Marfino, owner of ShoeFly/Clutch, started The Stiletto Run in 2008. This year Marfino partnered with Celebrate Buffalo owner, Adam Wilson to form The Stiletto Run LLC to help grow the event in 2009 and beyond. Marfino says, “The Stiletto Run brings people down to the Elmwood Village to support a great cause which affects thousands of women in the U.S. each year [ovarian cancer]. The event also separates itself from the rest - it’s not every day that you get to see both men and women running a race in high heels!” According to The Ovarian Cancer National Alliance’s website, “Each year, approximately 20,000 American women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer and about 15,000 women die of the disease. In 2008, it is estimated that 21,650 women in the United States will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer and 15,520 women will die from the disease.” The race starts at the corner of Bidwell Avenue and Elmwood Avenue and ends in front of ShoeFly and Delish Bakery on Elmwood. The race is limited to 300 runners/walkers, however, onlookers are invited to cheer on participants and join in the after-party for great food, music and drinks provided by Elmwood Avenue vendors. Several stores and restaurants between the Auburn and Lafayette block of Elmwood will also be staying up late and giving 10% of their sales to Ovarian Cancer cause along with all funds donated online. race For additional information about The Stiletto Run, participating store locations, or to register, visit www.stilettorun.org or stop by ShoeFly at 801 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo, NY. Donations are also accepted through the website. Volunteers for the event are also needed, if interested e-mail, shoeflyny@verizon.net.

Cat Falls 26 Stories From A Ledge, Makes The News And Stuff

Sure, I'll bite.

"Lucky," a well mannered, but inquisitive kitty living in Lower Manhattan, fell from a high rise apartment building over the weekend, 26 stories, and managed to escape with only minor injuries.  Lucky's fall was caught on camera by window washers, as they watched him make his way to the ledge of his owners home office, fall, and finally land on a lower patio, alive and safe. luckycat While its said that a cat will always land on his feet, this isn't always true, and you should always keep your windows blocked with a screen, not matter what the distance from the ground. However, Lucky's survival can be attributed partially to the great distance: as a cat falls, he has enough time to right himself and relax, and the stress of impact is better absorbed by the body. Snap! – Have EDL, Will Travel

06.02.2009 @ 11:45 AM in Lifestream
Snap! - Have EDL, Will Travel Effective June 1st (yesterday) 2009, in order to travel back and forth across united states borders to and from Canada and Mexico, you need to have a passport, or one of these gimmicky Enhanced Drivers Licenses. EDL's are only issued in New York, or Washington, and in some parts of Canada (border states and such). Part of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, the EDL has a (easily hackable, hence the foil sleeve they encourage you to store it in... a crappy effort to save face in a billion dollar near blunder) RFID chip that stores your traveling info, like citizenship and how many rugs you bring back from IKEA (maybe). It isn't cheap either. A passport costs like $75 bucks (and its the only approved id for air travel abroad), but I shelled out $80 for a renewal + EDL upgrade on my NY license. However, An EDL is great if you want the convienence of just an ID, and the turnaround is much faster (10 days). If you live in Buffalo, head downtown to the DMV in the Rath building, it's brand new and pretty nice... but don't get too hopeful, you are still in Erie County. #snap

WANT: Cure x MISHKA Boogie-Man

06.01.2009 @ 1:34 PM in Culture
Mishka is steadily becoming my number 1 hipster thread label of choice... mostly for reasons like this.... boogie1 Mishka, along with Cure, harnessing the incredible talents of Lamour Supreme (he did the Mongolion), have released this supremely limited top-notch quality vinyl piece from hell. Cast in Acid Green translucent vinyl, with MISHKA colors sprayed thoughout, Cyco Simon suspenders, Goat Mask, hatchet, guts, and a MadBall homage head... god this piece is amazing. And I fear I'll never touch it. boogie33 The Boogie Man dropped at the 350 Broadway Mishka shop in NYC yesterday, May 21st. There was a big party, Lamour showed up to sign some stuff, doodle, and I'm sure there aren't any left. If anyone sees one for sale let me know. Going back to Mishka being so fucking awesome, did you know that they sell vinyl/kaiju online and at 350 Broadway? I'm really excited for the upcoming releases that Mishka + Lamour Supreme are working on. Its all speculation, but I'm certain we'll see a Mishka Mongolion release in the future, too. More pictures here (via the Bloglin). UPDATE: MISHKA hooked me up and $150 bones later... I'll have it in my hands soon.

VideyoSnap! – Laundry Time

I don't think anyone likes doing laundry... I sure don't but I hate smelling
like funk more. I've been relying on a laundrymat to clean my clothes for
years. Whenever people offer to let me run a load at their place, I
gratefully decline; something about doing it all en masse, among the
derilects and cruisey old guys... #snap
