Fancy a Schaffas?

June 13th, 2008 Posted in Culture

What would you get if you sent artists all over the world a wooden blank like this and ask them to create what they thought a Schaffas would be? You might get back a myriad of characters as unique as the name…

So, whadayhell is a Schaffas anyway?

The International Fauna Dossier describes a schaffas (Marcum-Schaffidius) as a gentle and un-aspiring creature of great mystery. This exhibition will demonstrate the various and complex forms that the schaffas adopts.

SCREAMDANCE, Adelaideans Sam Barratt & Chris Edser, have hand-picked art-friends from all over the world to customize their own breed of schaffas. They were each sent a similar blank shape and given free reign to add, subtract, paint or destroy these objects. The response was inspiring with a wide variety of styles and approaches covered.

THis one, while not very elaborate, is awsome. YArrrgh!
